  • Snapping London: Balconies

Back in 2009, I took part in the London edition of the Scott Kelby Worldwide Photowalk.

I was part of the group that took photos around the Southbank area of Central London. Immediately right after the photowalk, I had to return to the motherland (Kenya) and didn’t get a chance to sort out the photos that I took.

After a few ups and downs and clearing space on my computer, I finally go do to sorting out through the pictures I took on the Photowalk. I must say, I need to do more of these, because looking back, I realised how much fun I had taking pictures with a group of strangers. You get to meet new people, learn from each other and most of all, take good pictures.

As a result, I will be sharing some of these photographs and others I take randomly in the streets of London as part of my ‘Snapping London’ series. Feel free to #hashtag it.

    Venue: Trafalgar Square
    Time: From 2pm – 6pm

This festival celebrates Eid-ul-Fitr, the Islamic holiday marking the end of fasting for Ramadan.
Trafalgar Square’s Eid Festival showcased a range of entertainment reflecting the diversity, culture and languages of London’s Muslim communities.
The main stage featured live music covering a range of forms, both traditional and modern. Artists included the hip-hop performers Akeem and MC Quest-Rah, the reggae-fusion of Rakin and the internationally acclaimed Sound of Reason from Canada.
In addition you could hear Nebila’s acoustic jazz, Naseeds from the Islamia School Choir, Raouf’s Arabic, African and Western fusion as well as Nasheeds from Suhail Ahmed Qadri and Mohamed Madadi.
There were also guest appearances from Zee TV artists Jernade Miah, Shide Boss, Ramzi and Abbas Hassan.
There was fun for the whole family, including a children’s area in which to sample scouting activities, souvenir stalls, traditional Eid festive food as well as the opportunity to sing to camera!
All were welcome to attend Eid Festival, which has grown to become one of London’s cultural highlights, attracting crowds of over 25,000 people.

  • Malaysian Night Market 2011

From 15.00 – 22.00hrs on 23rd September 2011, Trafalgar Square was transformed into a Malaysian Night Market. This market after a long year campaign by Malaysia Kitchen brought about educating its visitors about Malaysian cuisine. This was a free event organised by GLA and Mayor of London.
